Assistant Professor at Koç University Law School
Murat ÖNOK, born in 1979, is currently an assistant professor in the Law School at Koç University, Istanbul. Dr. Önok has obtained his BA degree in 2000 from the Dokuz Eylül University Law School in Izmir, and received his Ph.D. degree in 2005 from the Dokuz Eylül University Social Sciences Institute in Izmir.Dr. Önok’s fields of research are criminal law, human rights law and international criminal law. He has also taught public international law and criminology. Dr. Önok has been a member of the Supreme Council of the Turkish Press Council since 2012, and has been serving as its’ Vice-President since 2013, in addition to being a board member and bookkeeper of the Press Council Solidarity and Development Foundation. He also serves as board member of the national branch of Transparency International, the Turkish Penal Law Association, the Koç University Gender Studies Center (Koç-KAM), and the Koç University Center for Global Public Law (KÜREMER). He is also a member of the Criminal Procedure Law Training Commission of the Turkish Union of Bar Associations. In addition, he serves as an advisory board and/or review board member for many professional and academic journals.
