LSGL General Assembly and Academic Conference in Pretoria – A Milestone Gathering for Global Legal Education
The Law Schools Global League (LSGL) was honored to convene its General Assembly, Academic Conference, and LLM Fair in Pretoria, South Africa, hosted with great warmth and professionalism by the University of Pretoria. We are deeply grateful to Acting Dean Charles Maimela and the entire team for their exceptional hospitality and outstanding organization that made this edition of our gathering both memorable and impactful.
The General Assembly brought together representatives from member institutions across the globe to engage in high-level discussions on pressing issues in legal education and the future of the legal profession. Among the key topics were the challenges of transnational legal practice, research opportunities, and new LSGL initiatives designed to enhance global academic collaboration. We were also delighted to hold a vibrant LLM Fair, offering students valuable opportunities to connect with top legal education programs worldwide.
This Assembly also marked a moment of transition for LSGL leadership. Professor Jim Speta concluded his term as Co-President after years of dedicated service. His vision and contributions have helped shape the direction of the League, and we are sincerely thankful for his leadership. We are pleased to announce the election of Professor Elenora Lozanoas the new Co-President of LSGL. We look forward to her leadership and to continued collaboration in advancing the League’s mission. Furthermore, Professor Verónica Ruiz has been appointed as LSGL’s new Research Director. Her academic expertise and commitment to innovation will undoubtedly lead impactful research initiatives across our network.
On the academic front, the LSGL Conference on “Sustainable Development and Transnational Law in Africa”, held in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law, brought together distinguished scholars to explore timely and critical topics affecting the African continent and the broader global context. The conference featured a range of high-quality presentations that underscored the relevance and urgency of developing transnational legal solutions to global challenges.
We extend our sincere thanks to all LSGL member schools for their invaluable contributions to the discussions and initiatives throughout the event. Your ongoing commitment and collaborative spirit are vital to our shared goal: to transform global legal education and strengthen the profession for future generations.
Together, we continue to build a global legal community rooted in innovation, academic excellence, and shared purpose.
