LSGL AI Competition

LSGL AI Competition - Teaching Studios Challenge

The rapid rise of Generative AI is changing the world, and has potential to shape the future of global legal education and the legal industry. In order to recognise the importance of this topic and the debate around the use of Generative AI in education, LSGL has launched a new annual global initiative to showcase how AI can responsibly transform legal education, law school operations, and academic life.

As part of this initiative, applications are now open for the very first LSGL AI competition, the Teaching Studios Challenge.

Description

The Teaching Studios Challenge seeks to encourage innovative, classroom-ready AI applications that enhance teaching, learning, and assessment in law.

The competition is open to all LSGL member institutions, both faculty or faculty and student teams (with cross-institutional entries welcome).

Entry Details

Entries should include AI applications that fall within one of the following themes:

  • Courseware – AI-enhanced teaching modules.
  • Assessment & Integrity – new forms of fair, AI-aware assessment.
  • Skills Simulations – AI-powered experiential learning.
  • Open category

Entries must be a maximum of 2,500 words (along with an optional accompanying 5 minute video demonstration) and must be submitted to presidency@lawschoolsgloballeague.com by 1 May 2026.

Judging criteria

  • Pedagogical impact (40%) (for example, how the AI application helps develop students’ knowledge and/or skills within their legal education)
  • Innovation (25%) (how novel is the AI application?)
  • Replicability across schools (20%) (and in this regard, cost and technical expertise that would be required will be taken into consideration)
  • Responsible AI use (15%) (considering privacy, bias and academic integrity)

Prizes

10 entrants will be selected and put forward to an LSGL committee to choose a winner. The decision of the committee will be final and not subject to appeal. The winning team will be notified in advance of any public announcement and will be given the opportunity to present their AI application at the Summer Academic Conference hosted at Queen’s University Belfast in July 2026, either in person or remotely.

The 10 selected entrants will have their ideas published by way of videos or short demos, which will be hosted on LSGL’s website. LSGL reserves the right to use the names and affiliations of the winning team for promotional and publicity purposes, namely on LSGL social media channels.
